Razor Education
Hi! I’m Kelly Bird, founder of Topaz Salon. I am excited to offer in person straight razor hair cutting education. I have been razor cutting the majority of my almost 20 year hairstylist career and ready to share the knowledge I’ve refined along the way to fellow hairstylists.
I first learned razor cutting almost 20 years ago at the Bumble and Bumble academy in NYC. Along with their foundations of razor cutting I was fortunate to work along side other stylists early in my career that specialized in this style of cutting. I got to see many different approaches to using a straight razor to carve shapes into the hair. This hands on experience led me down the path of specializing in razor cutting myself.
Since developing this passion I have continued to seek out education to enhance and evolve my skills as a hairstylist. Other in person and online education that I have invested in includes in person workshops, demos, and online education from to- educators like Jayne Mathews, Pony Education, The Left Brain Group, Hairbrained, Bumble and Bumble university, and many more peers in the industry.
In Salon Hands on Razor Education
One on one education tailored to your needs. If you are a stylist that learns best hands on with no distractions this is for you. Let’s spend a day together working on your specific needs. Whether you are a beginner just getting into razor cutting, or you have been doing it for a few years and are feeling stuck. Topics that can be covered include body and hand positioning, technique, sectioning, weight removal, face mapping for better detailed haircuts, and so much more.

If you are interested in booking this with me please send me an email with a few topics and or style of haircuts you would like to work on. I will design a program just for you including 1 or 2 haircuts on models or mannequins.
Education days offered on Mondays, other days available with advanced notice. Max number for this is 4 people to ensure plenty of one on one time with each stylist.
In Salon look and learn demos
Look and learn demos are a great way to get inspired by new shapes and techniques. You can then take these fresh ideas back to your own chair to implement on your clientele. These classes are typically 10-20 people depending on the host salon. I host these demos at my home salon here in Bellingham and I am willing to travel almost anywhere! If you are a salon wanting razor education please feel free to reach out with your needs. I will post my upcoming classes here as they become available with detailed description of offerings. This class structure is a great value, cost varies depending on number of models offered. Typically $150-$250 per person.
